Just a bit of a teaser for you guys. This week I took the trip down to Melbourne to shoot a wedding for Nick & Jess. It has to be one of the greatest weddings I have shot to date because the ceremony, the photo shoot and the reception were all at the same location, but what a location! Situated in Sorrento at the very base of Port Philip Bay, the area was absolutely stunning.

I cannot wait to show you guys the rest of these photos, but for now I will leave you with just one.

It was such a perfect afternoon that I had to go find a high spot to get a shot of the sunset. I'm incredibly happy with my new 5D Mark I, the jump in image quality from my 40D is amazing. Even for an older camera. I can't wait to get some proper use out of it.

A couple of months back I shot two weddings with Matthew Breen where I used a 5D Mark I across both days. I took this photo recently for a photographic investigation I'm doing on alcohol for Uni. I found it quite interesting though that even though I didn't need to edit it right now, I still wanted to see how the final product would look. It's amazing what the evening sky can do for even the most dull subject.

Just got my film developed from the two rolls I shot at the Japanese Classic Show and Shine. The Fujifilm Superia 200ISO came out pretty good, but not as good as I had hoped. It definitely has a lot less grain compared to the Fujichrome Provia 400X that I was using previously, and the colors a bit more normal... Somehow though I think the 400 had a much smoother clarity. It's good quality slide film so straight away its better quality than the basic 200ISO that I am currently using, but me being impatience and tightarsed I just get it cross processed.

I really want to be getting photos of this sort of quality and color:

I think I might look into getting a professional series film from Fujifilm and see how that goes next, something around 160-200ISO for minimal grain but so I can still get those beautiful colors I'm looking for.

If you ever get anywhere near Kyoto a place you have to see is Nara. This place is absolutely packed full of deer that bow to you, its amazing! The parks in Nara are absolutely stunning to just have a quiet stroll through.

Hiroshima - 6月 20日 2011

Hiroshima was an amazing and eye opening place to see. Admittedly it was a place that Emily was far more eager to see than I was however I would have kicked myself had I missed out on it. The Hiroshima Dome is the only structure left standing after the bomb was dropped in 1945. At 600 metres below and 150 metres across from the blast the dome was almost the closest point to the centre of the blast.

One day during my trip to Japan we took a train from Namba station to Shinsaibashi and spent the majority of our day up there. Shinsaibashi is such an awesome place and being so close to Namba we decided to walk back through all the shops.

Today I spent a casual afternoon hanging out with my dad at the Tedder Ave Fast Cars, Food & Fashion show to check out some of the cars that were on display up there.

There were your typical cars up there; Exotics, random hummers and a line up of Commodores. The cars that interested me the most however were the classics, which surprisingly had a strong presence.

Straight away I spotted this Jag E-type.

This Thunderbird didn't seem to be on display, but it certainly was clean enough to be.

Everyone was out to get that feeling of grandeur from the cars and fashion.

I have always had a huge passion for the Porsche 365 and this Carrera was absolutely mint.

After checking out the cars it was time to settle down for a drink at the Clock Hotel.

I have just a bit of an update on what I have been working on this week. As mentioned, last weekend I took the trip down to Sydney to shoot at the World Time Attack Challenge. Despite having a full uni week first thing Monday morning after my Sunday night flight back, I have been slowly culling down the 2 something thousand photos I took over the weekend.

For now, Here's a snap of the Cyber Evo piloted by Tarzan Yamada resting in the pits.

I have a 5D Mark II in my hands for the next two days which I needed to hire it out for a HD video assignment at my uni. Considering I have recently convinced myself a 1D Mark IIN would be a better camera for me to purchase (hopefully) at the end of this year I also wanted to make sure I got a decent try of this before I completely make up my mind.

Having only used the 5D for an afternoon, I still know the 1D will be the better choice for me however I can't help but still want to buy one of these. The 6400 ISO on these is just insane, and every picture comes out crystal clear with perfect tones. Considering the 5D is 2-2.5 the cost of a 1D Mark IIN and not to mention isn't as suited to my style of photography I'm still very much leaning towards the 1D, with the hope that I can later upgrade to a IV or even a V if it is out by that time.

I've got a quick preview to show you guys what I have been up to on the weekend. I have been in Sydney since 7 am Friday to cover the World Time Attack Challenge at Eastern Creek Raceway. Having just got off the plane less than 2 hours ago I have been loading up and sorting through my shots from the weekend.

Here is one of my favorite shots of the Pan Speed FD RX-7 that I took just as the sun was going down on Saturday afternoon. Shortly after this it was announced that 2010's winner, Tarzan Yamada, in the Cyber EVO had stuck again. More on this soon!

Just in time for Superlap at Eastern Creek I have managed to get my mits on a 1D MKII N along with a 300 L f/2.8. I can't wait to start seriously shooting with it but this afternoon I went out to grab some quick test shots along the highway.

The camera body is incredibly cool albeit taking some time to get used to. Up until now I have had my heart set on a 5D MKII as an upgrade at the end of this year but I'm actually seriously considering changing to one of these. I have it for the next 12 days so that should be a good amount of time to aid my decision.

I will be heading up to King of Drift at Queensland Raceway on sunday so I expect to get some great shots from that!

I had a quick attempt at in-car light painting today. A very simple setup using a work light and a plastic A4 folder taped to the back of it. Like I said, simple, but effective. I'm very interested to keep trying this with better lighting supplies so hopefully you will be seeing some more of this. For now though, here is my shot of the inside of my S13.

I just got the first roll of film developed from my new EOS 1! I have plenty of great images from the roll of 36 but I honestly couldn't wait to post this image of a BMW 5 series I found in Shinsaibashi. It also turns out in my film noob'ness I had bought slide film... Not the greatest idea, but it came out surprisingly well!

As is the case for a lot of Japan, you see some really interesting people walking around. I stood here and people watched for a few minutes before I took this shot in the perfect afternoon sun.

Not many posts lately as I have been very busy building my new online magazine.

I won't shed too many details yet but I am putting a lot of hours into it in a hope it will become one of the more quality automotive publications out there.

I thought I would show you guys some of the stuff I have been up to the last few days. This last weekend I have been running up and down the coast helping mates with cars, camera in hand of course.

I have been very busy lately working on a project for my blog www.midnightmechanics.blogspot.com. So I am snapping as much content as I can.

On Saturday I was up in Labrador helping my friend Jared put his SR20 back into his S14. His previous motor blew the rings and he has since put a bit of money into the new motor for a bit of an improvement.

I got a few shots of the work being done throughout the day but here are some photos I took of his new TD05 turbo and GK Tech stainless manifold.

I also spent all day Sunday hanging out with my good friend Jason who is part of the Midnight Mechanics team. Jason has also been investing a lot of time and money in rebuilding his 4agte motor for his AE86.

I also snapped some glamour shots of his recently purchased drift hack. This R31 Skyline came with coilovers and not much else for $1500. The body is covered in Rust holes and sounds like a Holden Commodore but I can't begin to explain how much of an amazing car it is.

I went for a spot of fishing today. Even though I have done it plenty of times before it's not something I regularly do, but it was a good chance to catch up with my friend Matt who I haven't seen in quite some time.

I'm pretty proud of myself, I caught two fish today, but only one was big enough to take home. I would have to say fishing is something that is a lot more enjoyable when you have good company and you are at the right spot.

Anyway, being such a perfect day I made sure to bring my camera along. I also got some great film shots as I got a new battery for the EOS 1 today.

I also got a good shot of the S13 this afternoon. I've recently put 5mm spacers on all round and lowered the coilovers about 7mm and am very happy with the look of it.

Both this shot and the photo of Nathan's ute is HDR'd a little. Just enough to see the gorgeous colors we were seeing this afternoon as well as see what's in the shadows.

This afternoon I went out for a drive with my mate Nathan McKenna to get some photos of his 1200 ute as well as use my EOS 1 for some of the more tasteful shots. To my disappointment I found out this afternoon that my EOS 1 runs on a replaceable lithium battery which has decided to run out. But it's problems like this that make me happy to now have two camera body's, even if the 40D isn't full frame like the EOS 1.

I took this photo the other night just because it was such a perfect night sky. I took a shot with my EOS 1 as well, but obviously I will have to wait for the film to be developed before I show that.

Also, I think I'm going to endeavor to find a way to get on my roof (safely) for some really great dusk photos. We live on relatively flat property so as you can see the view is not too amazing, but I think some height advantage is just what I need.

Harajuku. What an awesome place! Some of my favorite shopping was in this place. We could just walk up and down this main ally and look for hours. I made sure to get myself some clear lens glasses and a chain for my shorts and wallet from this area in order to fit in with the rest of the people here.

Shibuya crossing was an amazing place to see on my visit to Tokyo. I really wish I had gone back there for a second day, it would be a great place to just sit down and people watch for half a day. The shops and food around Hachiko Square were incredible.
I can't wait to go back to Japan.

Shinjuku was an amazing area in Tokyo. No matter how many times we explored it we always found something new. The night I took this photo we went upstairs of one of the restaurants on the left for dinner where we ordered karaage, tomago, deep fried cheese along with lots of green tea and Miso soup.

I went for a bit of a drive up to Calamvale last night for the JDM Style Tuning meet up there.

Lots of cool cars up there, but nothing that really screamed... Pretty dissapointing.

Here's my photos from the night but I got about 3 shots in before I felt like every other poor sucker floating around taking photos for blogs etc..

There was a good mixture of cars around, but like I said nothing really stood out too much.

I took an incredibly blurry photo of the corolla just for the sake of posting it up lol.

This has to be my favorite car of the night, if I were to say anything stood out for me it was this R31.

Z's were plentyful... but I'm pretty sure they come out factory with those Varrstoen wheels now lol.

Generic S15 #30... Don't get me wrong, every s15 there looked awesome, but being so many with such similar bits makes things very repetitive.

Case in point, that said this was probably my favorite S15 of the night.

This afternoon I tagged along to a photoshoot where my girlfriend, Emily, was modeling for a friend of hers.

It was a rare treat for me, as I rarely get a chance to take any photos of Em (She doesn't let me!)

Its a shame, because she's incredibly photogenic and I love taking photos of people.

The location was perfect, and the afternoon sun was just pouring through after the smallest amount of rain earlier today.

Hopefully we will get the chance to do this again soon :)

As much as it might seem that I am biased towards sunsets, I very much love taking photos of sunrises... Tradgically with two jobs and a full-time uni course i don't get much opportunity for intentionally waking up for the sunrise.

Last week however, as i woke up for work, it was the most perfect morning and i just couldnt resist taking a few snaps.

I was 5 minutes late for work, but it was worth it!

I absolutely love taking photos at dusk. Its one of my favorite things to see silhouettes in photos with gorgeous vibrant sunsets in the background.

I am also quite partial to Cinema style photography, and have been trying to get a hang of doing it myself recently.

I can't say this is my best example, but I think it's pretty good for a photo I just quickly snapped while waiting at the lights on the way home from uni.

Just bought myself a new 24" HDMI Asus monitor today.

I love Cinema-like shots, and this is probably about as close as i have come to taking one.

I'm pretty happy with it for a first attempt, but i'm definitely keen to try some more. This was shot just off the Griffith University Bridge.

I think it might be time for:

1. A much larger monitor.. I currently have a 19" monitor which is terrible for photo editing &

2. A monitor color calibrator, because this image was alot less yellow in photoshop...

As much as I would love to be a photographer for TIME Magazine, I am not. Today at uni, a group of us got the opportunity to use the studio for an in class assignment which basically could be anything we wanted.

I decided to do a shoot very similar to what TIME would do for a national leader or dictator. I was very inspired by the recent portrait of Gaddafi on the April 4 Time Magazine.

Hey guys! Welcome to my new blog for Grant Scott Photography.

For a while now I've been toying around with the idea of completely changing my website to pure blog form at its very simplest. I have been trying my hand at wordpress which has been something of a buzzkill. Wordpress is a great blog engine, but i am really not a master at editing CSS so for the life of me i can't get it to do what i want.

So for now i will be using the humble Blogspot to blog everything i do.

For those that know me you will know i have a large variety of interests when it comes to photography; Weddings, functions, travel, cars, sports... All of which I felt I had to restrict when trying to cram it into the one little portfolio i had before. The idea of my previous portfolio was to gain freelance photography work, and although the idea is still the same with this blog, all i really want out of this is to show my work.

So with this blog you will be getting it all, anything i feel photo worthy will be posted here. No matter what.

A big inspiration for wanting to have such a minimalist style blog has been from Casey Dhnaram, who i believe is a graphic design genius as well as an mind blowing photographer.
